Alone and Fearful?
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9
Do you ever feel like you are out there, all alone, serving the Lord with no support?
- Homeschool Moms
- Those who go to Abortion mills to speak truth
- Those looking to change the laws of the land that sit in opposition to God’s Law
- Social media warriors, fighting for obedience to the Word of God by brothers and sisters in the Lord
- Those serving the impoverished, the ill, the orphan and the widow
- Great minds working to give understanding to what it means to love Christ and serve Him so others can, too
Many faithful, hard-working Christians are putting their energy, finances, intellect, and efforts, into serving the Lord with their whole heart.
I spoke to someone today who is discouraged by what she sees, or, more to the point, what she does not see, from the Church. She is fearful for her fellow believers who are sitting at home, complacent and content, to go about their lives unconcerned about our nation’s falling away from the Law of God and service to others.
We talked about what keeps us, God’s people, from serving Him with all our hearts. Fear, busy-ness, complacency, comfort, and false or shallow teaching; the reasons/excuses are many.
We had been reminded during a discussion with others that, “There are many” who have the same concerns and are out in the world, working hard to advance the kingdom of God. I was reminded of Elijah in 1 Kings 19. He had done some amazing work for the Lord, but had no help, nor saw others at work for the Lord.
He felt alone. He knew many others had been slain. He had killed the prophets of Baal, had run from Ahab and Jezebel, and, exhausted, was approached by the Angel of the Lord (1 Kings 19:7), who cared for him in his hour of need.
The LORD Himself came to Elijah and spoke to him in a “still small voice” (1 Kings 19:12). Elijah poured out his concern to the LORD. He said, “I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away” (1 Kings 19:10, italics mine).”
He felt alone and fearful in his mission. God reassured Elijah, “Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him” (1 Kings 19:18).
We may feel alone in our efforts. God still has a remnant of His people who will love and serve Him. We need not be discouraged by what we do not see! (Hebrews 11:1)
Look to the One Whose sovereign grace is sufficient to hold us up through what may seem like lonely and impossible odds against us. Paul tells us, “So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace” (Romans 11:5).
Is that you, “chosen by grace?” Will you listen for the “still small voice” of reassurance? Do not fear, you are not alone.
No! Absolutely. We are NOT alone.
