But Christ IS King
In the past week evil has been reported or treated as good and good as evil numerous times.
It started with Trump declaring his support of a 15 week abortion law. Then, a Planet Fitness moved to expel a long time member because she reported a man (who was wearing a women’s swimsuit) in the locker room watching women change their clothes. A YMCA had the same response to a man dressed as a woman that created concern from a long-term member as she watched the man watching little girls changing their clothes.
On top of this we were told that “Christ is King” is an anti-Semitic saying. Many Christians have hats, sweatshirts, t-shirts and stickers on their cars that proclaim “Christ is King.” I know (and am one of) these people and they are not anti-Semitic. The phrase is a Biblical truth that more people need to understand.
Many started to display this phrase when the Covid restrictions were imposed by a tyrannical government. These Christians were making the point that elected officials had over-stepped the bounds that scripture places on civil leaders (Romans 13:1-7). They (the civil magistrates) were trying to impose their own “kingship” in areas that were not theirs to take. It reminds Christians that when we feel helpless, Christ is King, vengeance and rule belong to Him.
Any authority that man assumes is ours has been delegated by God. I take this from what Jesus said in Matthew 28:18, “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.’” By saying that His authority covers all of heaven and all of the earth, He is pointing us to the truth that there is no place or person who is not under the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ.
This was driven home to me years ago when I asked my Pastor about how to speak to an unbelieving friend about a certain issue in her life. I said, “She’s not a Christian so I know I can’t expect Christian behavior from her.” He responded, “Why not? God does.”
In that moment I understood that my friend was going to, like all of us, stand before the Judgment seat of God and have to answer for every thought, word, and deed, because, at least at that time, she did not have the covering of the blood of Christ over her sin.
So, we know that Christ is the judge of every person; no one will escape His judgment. But, when Christ informs us of His authority over everything in Heaven and on earth, He says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
In this command to go ”therefore,” meaning because He is the Authority – a.k.a. the King over all, then even whole nations need to be discipled by the truth of His Word and to hear the instruction to observe His commands.
On Sunday we will celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ after His horrific death on the cross. He died so that the punishment of death required for our sin could be imputed to Him and His righteousness could be imputed to those who believe this truth.
The greatest truth of this great Gift from God is that He is Alive; He has risen from death and is seated at the right hand of God. He intercedes for His people. He sees the way a nation is going and judges accordingly.
America is headed in the wrong direction. It appears that in the evil being called good and the good, evil, we are seeing God’s judgment, including the holocaust of abortion and other places where the Lord God Almighty has lifted His hand of restraint.
As Christians we must be calling ourselves and the rest of our nation to repentance. Many do not even know He exists or know His law (or that He has given us laws). Hebrews tells us that we must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).
The Lord God is hardly acknowledged, no less trusted or obeyed, among our elected officials. Some do not know and others do not understand that His Word is living and active, sharper than a double edged sword and that Christ is King.
How will they know if no one tells them?
