Dad’s Duty
There’s a horrible account in our newspaper about a little girl named Harper who was murdered by her mother, then wrapped in a plastic bag and hidden in a container of cat litter. This violent and callous mother has been convicted of murder and is now serving time.
But what about the father? He served 729 days in jail awaiting the outcome of the investigation and was eventually charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child. According to the article: “… Assistant District Attorney Meg McCallum said (the father) agreed that prosecutors could prove that as Harper’s father he had a duty to care for and protect her and violated that by failing to stop [the mother] from causing serious injuries to her that caused her death.” The father “agreed that by not removing Harper from that violent situation he was recklessly or grossly negligent ….”
Many women (certainly not all) who get an abortion will say that the father of the baby talked them into the abortion or forced them to have it, refusing to support them if they keep the child.
Where are the District Attorneys and their assistants at abortion mills? If it is a father’s responsibility to care for his child after birth, why not after conception?
In Exodus 21, as God is giving the Law, He says this: “If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth prematurely, yet no harm follows, he shall surely be punished accordingly as the woman’s husband imposes on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if any harm follows, then you shall give life for life.” (Exodus 21:22-23, NKJV)
As for life outside the womb, God has a simple command, “You shall not murder.” (Exodus 20:13, NKJV)
It is worthy of noting the inconsistencies in the way the secular world looks at the murder of children. Ultimately, for the individual, it doesn’t matter what the civil courts say. God is clear that killing children in or outside of the womb is sin requiring the death penalty.
This statement of regret regarding little Harper’s father should warn anyone considering abortion: he “agreed that by not removing Harper from that violent situation he was recklessly or grossly negligent.”
Fathers and mothers, if you are expected to care for and protect your children outside the womb, you are equally responsible to do so for the unborn. This is a responsibility before God, even if man turns the other way.
Afterthought: I cannot help but wonder as families have been closed in together at home these past few months if there are parents well aware that their spouses are abusing their children. Both parents have this responsibility before God to care for and protect the children He has given us. If this is your situation, please get help. Seek counsel from the Church, call the police if necessary, or remove the child yourself.
