Diet of Confusion
I have been “dieting” for years. It started with Atkins when I was in high school though many were talking about Weight Watchers at the time. Later came the Grapefruit diet, Nutrisystem and just plain old calorie counting. After these came the Paleo and then the Keto diet.
After a while it got confusing. Should I be counting calories or carbs? Are sweet potatoes my friend or my enemy? Should I worry about fats collecting in my arteries or just enjoy the meat of the keto diet?
A while ago I read a Facebook post put up by an old friend who professes to be a Christian, It appears that she has done with biblical doctrine what I had done with diets. She has gotten confused.
Despite being a professing Christian she was promoting abortion as necessary and calling out any man who believes it is murder as having no “right” to say so because he has no uterus.
This friend is quite open about being a “left-leaning” Christian and searches for information that confirms her feelings. Generally, she takes what the Bible says and holds it up to what the world thinks.
As Christians, should we not be taking what the world thinks and holding that up to what God says?
Murder (abortion murders an innocent child) is one of the sins for which God’s Word calls for the death penalty. He obviously wants us to get the message that life is important, even life in the womb. He states specifically that if a baby is killed in the womb, the penalty is life for life (Exodus 21:22-23).
God is also clear about what an abomination it is to Him when innocent life is taken. In Numbers 35:33 God tells us clearly not to shed innocent blood because blood pollutes the land. He further says that the only atonement for this shed blood will be accepted from the ones who shed it. We are a nation with a lot of blood for which we must atone.
Do we wonder why our nation is in such a confused and troubled state?
Like diets, another thing I am confused about is how we, as Christians, will take a stand against those who are working hard to wake up a sleeping world with regard to abortion. They are trying to proclaim the Gospel to abortion minded women, to save babies from the slaughter, to protect our land from being polluted, and to protect some women from life-long guilt or strong forces of wickedness pushing them to abort. Shouldn’t these “abortion abolitionists” be celebrated for their boldness for Christ, not castigated for their biblical stance…..including the men who are there accepting their God given roles as protectors?
Why are we not celebrating these men and women who are protecting innocent babies? They are bravely standing up in a culture that resists them. These warriors for Christ are not just accusing and shaming abortive women as the social media world portrays them. These men and women offer hope and help, both spiritual and material.
I thank God for every man and woman who go out on the front lines of this war with the world, appropriately shining the Light of the Gospel on these women and their unborn babies. They are offering un-confused hope while “left-leaning Christians” offer confusion about God and His love for each One He creates.
Deliver those who are drawn toward death, And hold back those stumbling to the slaughter. Proverbs 24:11
