Mediums and Ouija Boards
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. John 16:13
I know, from the scriptures, that there is a spirit world and that it is not all heavenly and good. There is evil in our world and there is evil in the spirit world.
A few days ago I read an article in our local paper about a “Paranormal Team medium” who was offering a warning to people who use Ouija Boards. She said, “We feel we are talking to those that have passed, and they get to tell us that they are all right and watching over us,” she said. “But there are times when our experiences are not as wonderful. People are told horrible things by spirits bent on mischief out of malevolence or just plain boredom.”
“Spirits can manifest pretending to be loved ones, famous people who have passed (I once supposedly was speaking to Jim Morrison) or even angels. And people believe them, opening up their psychic energies, their souls, so to speak.”
“They open their homes and invite them in. Now, one would not just open their door and invite in a stranger from off of the street, would you? But when you use a talking board without precautions, that is exactly what you do.” http://readingeagle.com/article.aspx?id=484217
Then, today there was a second article, “Medium offers Ouija Board safety tips”. Her first tip? “Light a white candle and say a prayer,” she noted. “If you are Christian, I recommend an ‘Our Father.’ If you are Jewish, I’d recommend the Shema and the Kaddish. The candle needs to be white. Do not be lazy and substitute.”
STOP!! Read your Bible before you take any advice from a medium. There is not one Christian who should say any prayers “before using a Ouija Board” because there is no Christian who should ever think of using one.
Here is what God has to say about involvement with the paranormal from Deuteronomy 18:10-12, “There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD. And because of these abominations the LORD your God is driving them out before you.”
God puts mediums in the same category as those who would sacrifice a child as an offering to some god (obviously, not Him). These things and these people are an abomination to God. He does not want us messing with the spirit world. They are real and this medium, in today’s article, said something that should scare anyone. On this, she has a point, “What many people don’t seem to grasp is that in using a talking board, you are opening a portal. You are asking and giving permission for an entity to come through and manifest. You are most often not specific about what entity comes through. A door remains open and entities continue to come through like uninvited party guests.” http://readingeagle.com/article.aspx?id=487382 I am not sure about portals but I am sure we don’t want to invite unknown spirits to our parties.
From the scriptures we know that, with the power of the Holy Spirit, we have an advantage, we make different (better) decisions than we do without Him. Jesus said He would send us a Helper to guide us in truth and even to remind us of what Jesus had said. (John 14:26, 16:13) We do not need any other “spirit”.
The only prayer any Christian needs to offer up regarding a Ouija Board is an offering of repentance if we have used one and to seek God’s intervention to close any portal we have opened. Jesus dealt harshly with demons and in His Name they will still leave us. (Matthew 8:28-34, Mark 7:24-30, Luke 9:37-43)
It scares me that our newspaper, even under the heading, “Berks the Bizarre” would run an article that implies using a Ouija Board is acceptable for Christians if done under the right conditions. To God it is an abomination – no matter what color the candle is!
