Murder Was Right
There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood… Proverbs 6:16-17
A few days ago I wrote a blog post that I titled, “Murder!” when I wrote it. It was about abortion.
When I went to post it, I wondered how others would respond to the title. SO, when I put it up on the website I entitled it, “Innocent Blood.” (You can read it if you click here.)
This past Friday I heard a man named Jeff Durbin speak about abortion and how we soften the words we use about it so that we will not offend anyone. He pointed out that we, the Church of Jesus Christ, have shied away from phrases we think might upset or offend others, especially outside the church. He clearly made the point that it is time to change the conversation about abortion.
As Pastor Durbin was speaking, I was convicted. I felt like I could see God’s finger pointing right at me saying, “That’s what you did when you changed that title.” The killing of pre-born children is the shedding of innocent blood – a sin the Bible clearly teaches is an abomination to God. (Deuteronomy 27:25) But, the article was more about the abortion than it was the babies. “Murder” was the right title.
In the last couple of years I have been paying a lot of attention to the “Abolish Human Abortion” movement. These people are Christians who are not “Pro-life.” They are abolitionists who want to make abortion illegal.
They use terms like, “murdering the unborn,” “killing your baby,” and “deathscort” (describing the people hired by abortion clinics to escort women from their cars to the door to “protect” them from people trying to convince them not to kill their babies).
They hold up large pictures of aborted fetuses. These pictures show babies that have been torn apart to “end a pregnancy” or, as the AHA people would clearly state, to kill the baby. I hate those pictures, my stomach turns every time I see one. But, I recognize that their intent is to expose the reality of the abortion industry. A reality kept in the dark.
Americans have bought the lie that life will be easier with fewer children. The Lord does not bless us with “easy.” He actually says that children are a reward, “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.” (Psalm 127:3)
Most abortions are murders for convenience. The parent, or parents, are afraid of the cost to them financially or because a child will interrupt, postpone or change an educational plan.
If the parent of a small child decided that their children had become a burden because they were having to work to feed them or postponing educational plans to raise them, so they kill them, we would prosecute them for murder. It would be immediate, without question.
Why then, should it be legal for any parent to kill any child at any age – even before they are born?
I am grieved by all of the innocent blood that has been shed in our nation. My new conviction is that I will not apologize for calling it murder.
Agreed. We all should call it what it is: MURDER.
