The actions we live out are a picture of what we believe about God, about the world, and about people. In a nutshell, actions reveal our worldview.
People often respond to the world as if we had created it and understand exactly what the next step for us should be without ever seeking God’s guidance. We respond to other people (especially our own children) as though we have totally forgotten that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
We are often more surprised that someone hurts us than we are that, by God’s grace, He more frequently protects us from these hurtful situations.
There are certain things that happen in this world that we may need to adjust to: Marriages face job transfers involving a move. People die. People cheat. Companies go out of business and jobs are lost. What we believe about God and about life will determine how we respond to these trials in life.
Searching God’s Word and seeking His guidance about how to respond is the only way to get past these difficult times and live with the peace and joy that the Christian is promised. If we fail to follow God’s plan and lean on His promises, peace and joy may be far from us.
Facing difficult decisions or life circumstances is often when our worldview becomes most obvious. Most Christians think there’s some reason why their circumstances are different. “God would understand” why they aren’t doing what He says because, for some reason they believe it’s different for them. Their human advisors are wiser than God (Not!).
Here’s the truth. God does understand. He knows the heart. He sees motives. When a Christian is not living up to the standard set for us in the scripture there is a worldview problem – it is also a sin problem. These sins are often based in our pride that we are somehow different, our circumstances unique, and our hearts pure.
Perfectly pure hearts do not exist in the human being. The only way to see the heart is to study the scriptures and see what God says about it. He is the only One who sees our hearts and every set of circumstances we live in clearly. Our direction for handling them needs to come from Him. We must have His Holy Spirit in order to discern the Truths of the Bible.
Do our actions reveal a worldview that pleases God? A Biblical worldview will provide the best worldview.
The better we know the Word of God the more it will shape our thinking…our worldview. When our actions do reveal a Biblical worldview, the blessings will overtake us.
Ponder these words from Deuteronomy 28:1-2:
“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God.
Yes, the better we know God the more our thinking will be shaped into the life He has planned for us.
You are right, Melissa. He is worthy of spending some time getting to know Him!
