The Newest Shock: Eyeball Tattoos

Eye - turquois

Oh that they had such a mind as this always, to fear me and to keep all my commandments, that it might go well with them and with their descendants forever! Deuteronomy 5:29

Eyeball tattoos. I am not kidding. I read an article about eyeball tattoos. If you think you can stand it, here is a link to some pictures. http://lunacobra.net/services/eyeball-tattooing Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. From my perspective, I feel I should warn you:  they are not pretty.

Eyeball tattoos are over the edge fringe to me. Leviticus 19:28 says, “You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the LORD.” Leviticus is a book of the Law of God. The very next verse says this, “Do not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, lest the land fall into prostitution and the land become full of depravity” (Leviticus 19:29).

My guess is that many would argue that the law about tattoos is not about today but that the law for not prostituting our daughters still stands. According to God, do we get to choose which ones to discard and which ones to obey?

I was struck by the understanding that some people really do want, or need, to be on the fringes of what is acceptable behavior. Anytime we, as a culture, accept a new “low” in behavior, the one who needs to be on the fringe will find something new and more shocking.

When we allow men (who claim to be women) to go into women’s restrooms and women (who claim to be men) into the men’s rooms, we are dropping our expectations of “normal” and “decent” behavior. What will be the next, more shocking thing, that will come from that?

I do not know, and I do not want to think about it…but I must. I sometimes shop with grandkids in tow. It breaks my heart that the “age of innocence” is gone.  We have to be educating our little children to the evils in the world.

The good news is that we can also teach that, in Christ, they can stand up to evil. We can teach them the Word of God, so they know the Truth. We can bless them by protecting them according to the teaching of the scriptures, that they can be in the world without being of the world – for their own good and the good of future generations.

Lord willing, they can and will, teach their children. Over the generations, as more and more see the Truth of God’s Word and the demise of a great country, more will see that God’s ways are not our ways, but are for our good.

Lord willing, good will become the new shocking.  Eyeball tattoos would prove we are not there yet.
