You Shall Not Kill

And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.  Psalm 106:38

I have been paying close attention to the work of “AHA,” or Abolish Human Abortion.  It is a growing ideology that believes Christians should not work toward an incremental end to abortion.

Rather, they work courageously at educating people about the truth of abortion. They are lobbying to have abortion outlawed and visiting local “clinics” to stop mothers from committing the crime that it is: murder. Many of them are also educating anyone who listen about the sin and the aftermath of abortion.

“You shall not murder,” comes from the mouth of God (Exodus 20:1-17). Yet, many Christians seem to question it. They think we should just keep on keepin’ on with what “we” have been doing. I don’t know about most of you, but I have not done much.

I have believed abortion is murder. I have believed it was something God hates. I believed the “Pro-life Movement” when they said we (Christians) were making progress.

God opened my eyes to the truth that there has been little progress, even though the numbers are fewer, there are still abortions. Abortionists are being paid by parents to kill babies (and in some cases, supplemented with taxpayer dollars).

The first truth that got my attention was that any “law” passed that ends with, “and then you can kill the baby,” still kills the baby. If we eliminate (by law) every abortion after 24 weeks, we are still allowing the abortion of any baby up to 24 weeks. If we make abortion clinics clean and adhere to every American with Disabilities Act’s guidelines, we may have more clean and accessible “clinics,” but we are still killing the babies.

Then God showed me, in His Word, how much He hates the shedding of innocent blood. (See Deuteronomy 19:10-13, 21:8-9, Psalm 106:38).  Who could be more innocent than an unborn baby?

I can now see that in my silence, I am also responsible for that innocent blood. I have never sent anyone for an abortion or even encouraged or given someone a ride. But, in my silence, have I not been complicit in not protecting the unborn and allowing the shedding of innocent blood without any resistance?

Based on available state-level data, an estimated 906,000 abortions took place in the USA in 2015. In 2014, there were about 926,240 abortions in the U.S., down from 1.06 million in 2011, 1.21 million abortions in 2008, 1.2 million in 2005, 1.29 million in 2002, 1.31 million in 2000 and 1.36 million in 1996. From 1973 through 2011, nearly 53 million legal abortions occurred in the U.S.  (http://abort73.com/abortion_facts/us_abortion_statistics)

You can see that the numbers are falling, and have been for years. 906,000 abortions is still too many by about 906,000!

Until we, as Christians, insist that our lawmakers adhere to the Law of God, (and our nation) that murder is sin and is to be punished, this holocaust of pre-born babies will continue.

Is there a “clinic” near you where you could go and  plead and pray for women to save the lives of their babies? Will you call or write to your local and state representatives to stop the killing of innocent children that is soaking our land with innocent blood?

Who, or what, are we more afraid of than God Himself?
